Honda signs teenage karter to development deal

Honda has worked a long-term deal to support and develop the driving talents of British kart driver Will Stevens, 16, winner of 2007 European and Asian Pacific FIA karting championships. He also won the 2007 International Masters Open KF2 title. In 2006 he was WSK Junior ICA Champion and in 2005 he was MSA British Junior Champion.”Will has had a very promising career in karting to date and we very much look forward to assisting his advancement through the ranks of the junior formulae towards achieving his ultimate ambition to race in Formula One,” the team’s sporting director, Ron Meadows, said.

“Honda considers the development of emerging motorsport talent to be a key part of our strategy and our commitment to Formula One. We look forward to seeing how Will progresses with our support over the course of the next few years.”

Stevens, who toured the F1 team’s Brackley, England, headquarters Friday said, “I am extremely proud to be joining the Honda Racing F1 Team, and this provides me with a great opportunity to progress my career towards my goal of reaching Formula One.”

Stevens is racing in Europe this season with Tony Kart Racing Team in KF1 class and is taking part in the WSK International Series and in the World Cup in Japan.
